As every summer, HD Debrecen hosts English camps at both of its locations for children from kindergarten to the older teenage years. After last year's Magic Camp, this year the theme is based around our beloved city of London.
PlanningDuring our work together, we had several conversations about how we fell in love with the English language, culture, history, etc. We thought about the things that fascinated us, or the people who awakened our curiosity about English. Our common philosophy is that learning English language and culture through play should be something that little ones can enjoy and remember.
We thought that one of the objectives of our language school was to bring English culture closer to our young students, while providing them with a native English environment. We were all excited about the preparation and ideas were flying around in our meetings. Themed lessons and speech-oriented activities covered traditional foods, sports, typical transport, places of interest and of course the unmissable royal family. We made crowns, glued a double decker, painted a portrait in memory of Queen Elizabeth II... just a few of the activities that took place in English lessons.
After a morning of English lessons, the afternoons were equally busy. We had a varied and exciting programme for all ages, with English thrown in for good measure.
Camp for the little ones
In the spirit of the Great British Bake Off, the toddlers started the week with a bake-off and a movie afternoon, followed by a special dog show. A visit to SB Farm was a real adventure for everyone, followed by the ultimate favourite: the scavenger hunt! The week was rounded off with the in-house Britain's Got Talent Show and garden party.
School Kids Camp
The school kids also had the opportunity to learn about London and the UK through themed English lessons. In the afternoons, they were able to play Sherlock Holmes in the trees of the Great Forest, try their hand at climbing a wall and cool off in the swimming pool. At the end, they joined the inevitable garden party on Hadházi.
Teen Camp
The teens didn't miss out on the fun! They filled our venue on Darabos Street. Many of them are returning HD campers, have been to our preschool, kindergarten and high school camps, and have become regulars at our teen camp. The English lessons focused on communication in English, playful exercises, all of course, tied in with our English theme. The afternoons were full of great activities, with bowling, nerf battles, an escape room and a trip to the airport. A cinema afternoon was a super way to end the week!
Zoo Camp
But these were not the only two locations for our English language camps... This year we also held our zoo camp. Every year we have a real adventure, learning English in a very special place, going behind the scenes of the zoo, enjoying the animals and the nature. This year, each day in English class, we learned about the flora and fauna of a different climate, helped feed different animals and became proper (English-speaking) zoo keepers by the end of the week.
An eternal experience
At Helen Doron Debrecen, we believe that our method provides children with a learning experience that will last forever. Our summer camps also provide a native language environment, fun-filled play, intensive development opportunities and exciting activities. We are also delighted to see our old bikers year after year, who enjoy each camp as much as they did the first one, and new children who love learning English with us - and we love them - so much that they join us for the school year from September.
It was a pleasure to be with you again this summer! We look forward to welcoming all our students, old and new, to our summer camps next year!
